Facebook: request and upload your data

Facebook's "Download Your Information" tool gives you a full archive of your posts, photos, videos, stories, and (if you manage one) any Facebook Pages associated with your account. Request takes 5 minutes; Facebook emails you when it's ready in 24–48 hours.

Personal account vs Page

If your business has its own Facebook Page (separate from your personal profile), you'll want to export both: your personal account and the Page. Most artists/small businesses have content scattered between the two. Same flow for both — just do it twice.

Request your archive

On the Facebook app (phone)

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap your profile picture (top-right).
  2. Tap Settings & privacy → Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts Center at the top.
  4. Tap Your information and permissions.
  5. Tap Download your information.
  6. Tap Download or transfer information.
  7. Pick the Facebook account or Page you want to export.
  8. Choose Some of your information.
  9. Under "Your Facebook activity", check:
    • Posts (status updates, photos posted to your timeline)
    • Photos and videos (everything you've uploaded, including from albums)
    • Stories
    • Reels
    • Profile information (bio, About section)
    Skip messages, friends, etc.
  10. Tap Next.
  11. Choose Download to device.
  12. Set the date range to All time.
  13. Set format to JSON (preferred) or HTML.
  14. Set media quality to High. (Critical — Medium downsamples.)
  15. Tap Create files.

On facebook.com (desktop)

  1. Go to facebook.com and log in.
  2. Click your profile picture (top-right) → Settings & privacy → Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Accounts Center.
  4. Same flow from step 4 onward.

Exporting a business Page

If you also have a Facebook Page (separate from your personal account):

  1. Switch to the Page (from your profile menu, pick "See all profiles" → tap the Page).
  2. Tap the gear icon → Page settings.
  3. Tap Privacy → Download your information.
  4. Same content checkboxes as above.
  5. Submit. Facebook treats the Page export as a separate request.

Wait for the email

Facebook emails you (subject: "Your Facebook information is ready") when it's done. Usually 24 hours; can be up to 48 for big archives. The email comes from notification@facebookmail.com.

Heads up: the download link expires after 4 days. If you miss it, just request again.

Download the .zip

  1. Open the email and click Download your information.
  2. Facebook may ask you to log in again.
  3. The .zip downloads. Filename like facebook-yourname-archive-abc123.zip.
  4. For big archives Facebook splits into multiple .zips — upload all parts.

Upload to your intake

  1. Return to your intake page.
  2. Scroll to the Upload your platform exports section.
  3. Drop both .zips in (personal + Page if you exported both).
  4. Wait for Uploaded ✓ next to each file.

If you exported both your personal account and a Page, that's two .zips. Both are useful — your personal posts often have the candid behind-the-scenes stuff, the Page usually has the polished promo content.
